Happy to finally see my and Runggu Prilia Ardes's book chapter on Indonesian space law printed and launched together with others written by distinguished experts on national space laws across Europe and Asia! Through this chapter, we hope readers could get a more nuanced grasp on the context, the essence, as well as the challenges faced by Indonesia in space lawmaking. It's not exhaustive but presenting key starting points. Alongside other chapters, it also provides materials for comparative views on the development of national space laws surveyed. Special thanks to Nayoung Y. and Olivia Schlouch of the KAS Rule of Law Programme Asia for making and organising this project from start to finish. They provided me invaluable opportunities to contribute on the political aspects of the contemporary Indonesia's legal development, as well as getting Runggu's authoritative expertise on the Indonesia's space lawmaking on board. This chapter was so special for me and Runggu to honour our colleague, the late Dr. Mardianis, SH, MH, who for decades led studies and policy-making on space law at the Indonesian space agency. He was our mentor and his legacy is at the heart of this chapter. Proud to be part of this project. Looking forward to working on the next!
