De Beers Group and the Government of the Republic of Botswana are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Akinwumi Adesina as Chairperson of the Diamonds for Development Fund.   A globally respected leader and renowned development economist, Dr. Adesina brings nearly 40 years of experience championing economic growth and sustainable development across Africa. As former President of the African Development Bank Group, his leadership helped attract record levels of investment into projects across the continent and advance initiatives that have improved the lives of millions.   The Diamonds for Development Fund has been established by De Beers Group, in consultation with the Government of Botswana, for Batswana. It will support the country’s emerging knowledge-based economy and accelerate long-term economic diversification, in line with the commitments included in the formal agreements signed in February 2025 between De Beers Group and the Government of Botswana to advance the national diamond industry and support the country’s broader development objectives.
