What if the future of education isn't about asking students to fit a predefined path, but designing pathways flexible enough to fit the student?   In a recent conversation with Paralympian, psychologist and author Kate Naess PLY, one idea stood out: when faced with assumptions about what was or wasn't possible, the answer wasn't to lower expectations—it was to find another way forward. The same principle applies to higher education.   Students today are balancing work, family responsibilities, health challenges, elite sport commitments and countless other demands. Flexibility is no longer a nice-to-have; it's a critical part of creating access and opportunity.   For us, as a university, flexibility means recognising that there is no single "right" way to learn. It's about providing options, removing barriers and empowering students to pursue their goals in a way that works for their circumstances.   Because when we stop asking people to fit the system and start designing systems that fit people, potential has more room to flourish.
