Women who Inspire – Rt Hon Jacinda Adern Jacinda Ardern led a struggling New Zealand Labour Party to victory in 2017, at age 37 became the country’s youngest prime minister in more than 150 years, the world's youngest female head of government and the world's second elected head of government to give birth while in office. Jacinda began her association with the Labour Party at age 17, on the staff of Prime Minister Helen Clark. She did her “OE” to Britain, a traditional rite of passage for many young New Zealanders. Instead of labouring in a London pub or warehouse then touring the Continent, Jacinda worked for over two years in the cabinet office of Prime Minister Tony Blair. She was elected president of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), a position that took her to destinations such as Algeria, China, India, Israel, Jordan, and Lebanon. She led the country through the aftermath of the Christchurch mosque shootings, and her government introduced strict gun laws in response. Jacinda describes herself as a social democrat and a progressive. For her global outreach and leadership, she has been widely described as the most powerful woman in the Southern Hemisphere and one of the most powerful Women in the world. #EachForEqual #IWD2020
