Chief of Staff | Head of Operations in Pharma & Biotech | Scaling Data, AI/ML and R&D Orgs from 20→200+ | ex-GSK Senior Director | London

After 28 years, my career with GSK has reached an end this month….  For now, anyway, as I take a short career break to enjoy the summer before looking for a new position in the wider world!   When I first joined GlaxoWellcome in 1997 I never expected to last more than a year, let alone see out nearly 3 decades working at what is now GSK.   Based at 5 different sites across a dozen roles, I've been fortunate to learn more than I can remember and been lucky enough to work with some fantastic people on helping deliver new medicines to patients. Lately supporting Nick Peterson in designing and setting up the Onyx organisation, helping to establish recruitment processes, new offices, assisting with the development of new ways of working for data governance and implementing learnings from previous data platform investments has been an incredibly rewarding experience.    Onyx launched as a 23-person organization at the start of 2023 to become nearly 200 strong and my role allowed me to work with some great partners across Compliance, Finance, HR, Comms and facilities that were all enthused by the mission to fundamentally shift the way data is used to solve scientific problems through modern engineering.  The journey will continue without me, however, I could not recommend GSK and Onyx enough. So if you are looking for a way to leverage your data and technology expertise to improve human health, then check out https://gskonyx.tech and see how you can join. As way of closing this chapter of my story, though there are far too many people to thank by name, I would like to call out a few of the most influential:  - To Nick Peterson: for your vision and trust, always enabling me as your chief of staff to try things; it was a blast! - To Kim Branson, Mike Montello, Shubha Chaudhari, for the opportunity to work with Nick as well as your leadership - To Trang Ngo, Kapil Notra, Yan Kou, Charat Singh, Ben French, John Kakoulides Hunter, Petr Votava, Shubhangi Agrawal, and Paul H.: for putting up with my spreadsheets, nagging and rants as part of the best leadership team I could possibly have asked to be part of, I’ll never forget the trips, the laughs or hard work we put in together -  To my great partners, Lizzie Woolnough, Kimberlee Spores MA, CCWP, Edlira Stanisich, Debbie Loughney, Joel Karpiak, Simon Lambert; Jill Zvorsky, SHRM-CP, Anna Prokopchuk, Rebecca Scott; thanks for listening and openness to do things differently! And last, but by no means least: thank you to the many brilliant people at GSK who have made this adventure not just possible, but real and fun.   In terms of my next steps, I’d love to help others through the experience I’ve gained so feel free to reach out if you have any CoS, COO or lead Operation roles that you think I might be a good fit for.   I’ll be watching plenty of Cricket, going on plenty of walks and meeting friends I’ve neglected so will have plenty of down time to peruse interesting propositions!
