If it looks like I'm grinning ear to ear in the video, it's because I am. 😄 This week, I joined the press conference announcing a new honorary name for the area surrounding the south Preston Highway corridor — La Villa Lou. This name recognizes the history, culture, and invaluable contributions of Louisville's Latin/Hispanic community — a community that calls this part of our city home in a meaningful way. And a community that has grown 331% in KY since the year 2000, that owns more than 18,000 businesses ('23 number), and a purchasing power that likely ranges from $6-8 Billion. It started about a year ago when several of us active in the Latin/Hispanic community came together with Mayor Greenberg's administration to ask a simple question: What can we do to more proactively and prominently honor our comunidad? La Villa Lou is one answer. Commemorated by the beautiful mural you see in the video, it's one step — one granito de arena, as we say in Spanish — toward giving our Latin/Hispanic community the recognition it deserves. And this is just the beginning.
