This Reconciliation Week, we reflect on our David Jones’ Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (2023-25) which demonstrated a deep and evolving commitment to supporting First Nations communities through meaningful partnerships, storytelling and opportunity. At the heart of this work was the Indigenous Fashion Pathways Program, delivered in partnership with Indigenous Fashion Projects. Since its launch in 2020, the program has supported 13 First Nations designers with mentorship, professional development and access to major platforms, including runway shows at Australian Fashion Week and in-store commercial opportunities. Beyond pathways into the industry, we have continued to elevate First Nations voices. From featuring designers and creatives in campaigns and editorial content, to hosting in-store pop-ups showcasing First Nations collections, we aimed to bring these stories to a broader audience. Partnerships also extend into community impact. Through our longstanding collaboration with the GO Foundation - The Goodes O'Loughlin Foundation, we have contributed to the delivery of scholarships supporting young Indigenous Australians to reach their full potential. For our people, the RAP has driven cultural capability through education, immersive experiences and engagement with First Nations leaders, supporting reconciliation to continue to be embedded and embraced across the business. Together, these initiatives reflect a holistic, all-in approach to reconciliation, one that not only celebrates culture and creativity but hopes to create real, lasting opportunities.
