Cork-based NeuroBell closed €4.8 million for its LUNA neonatal brain monitor. The company spun out of University College Cork in 2023 and addresses two critical gaps in newborn care: 👉 Miniaturization Standard newborn EEG monitoring typically requires large, cart-based machines and specialized technicians to interpret complex brain wave data. LUNA compresses this clinical-grade power into a wireless, pocket-sized form factor. It allows intensive care staff to initiate monitoring instantly at the bedside without navigating tangled wires or waiting for external equipment. 👉Automated interpretation Its AI-assisted analysis addresses a massive bottleneck: the availability of pediatric neurologists. By using machine learning to filter out background noise and reliably flag true seizure activity, the technology prevents "alarm fatigue" and ensures that clinicians can intervene during the critical window before permanent brain injury occurs. 🙋‍♂️What happens next? NeuroBell and its CEO Mark O'Sullivan are finalizing its regulatory push for US FDA clearance, which is anticipated in the coming months.
