What happens when aging suburban malls are reimagined as vibrant, people-centered neighborhoods? At #AIA26, DBA Principal Pedram Farashbandi, AIA will join Eri Suzuki, AIA of SITELAB urban studio for The Mall, Reimagined: A Framework for Urban Transformation*, a conversation exploring how underutilized retail sites can become a meaningful response to today’s housing challenges. Using the Stonestown Galleria redevelopment as a case study, the session will dive into how multidisciplinary collaboration, phased development, and performance-based code can help transform legacy properties into thriving mixed-use communities—creating homes, public space, and neighborhood connectivity while keeping existing infrastructure operational. As regions across the country grapple with housing shortages and changing commercial landscapes, these kinds of adaptive urban strategies feel more relevant than ever. If you’ll be in San Diego for AIA26, join the conversation: 📍 Saturday, June 13 ⏰ 7:30–8:30 AM 🎤 *The Mall, Reimagined: A Framework for Urban Transformation* Learn more about the Stonestown project here: https://lnkd.in/eJef8D9p #AIA26 #HousingDesign #UrbanDesign #Architecture #AdaptiveReuse #CityPlanning #MixedUseDevelopment #HousingInnovation
