Some things stick with you, while others fade away... Jack Welch was at the helm when my company, Bently Nevada, was acquired by GE in 2002. I was immediately thrust into the world of big corporate leadership. One of the mantras that is still omnipresent in my subconscious is this one, the four E’s of leadership. Jack was not known for a great deal of empathy, but someone in HR must have got him to acknowledge the 5th, and perhaps most important “E” - Empathy... at least on paper!
