When Global Health Fellows visited PerúChamps firsthand, the team inspired them to “stay grounded in their purpose” of helping care for their local and global communities through public health. Through a trip with The John Sloan Dickey Center for International Understanding at Dartmouth, Angel, Simrah, and eight other Global Health Fellows spent spring break moving through Peru to immerse themselves in the lived experience of the peoples they’ve been studying. They sat in on community health worker programs and clinics, hiked the Inca Trail, observed how medical research is being used to bridge healthcare gaps, and explored Sacred Valley archaeological sites with guides who reframed how Indigenous history and culture shaped the communities they visited. https://bit.ly/4cQvPXW After 10 days of sitting in on clinics, learning from community health workers, and exploring a culture that approaches healthcare in a way they may not have ever experienced, our students returned with one-of-a-kind memories and a better understanding of how public health programs create a positive impact on the communities they’re built for.
