Lately, I'm getting pulled into many conversations about Artificial Intelligence in supply chains. You probably are, too. Many of the leaders I've spoken with are looking for "quick wins" and "low-hanging fruit" by implementing AI... somewhere. Anywhere. Maybe it's procurement, maybe it's transportation, maybe it's labor management, etc. I see two major risks here: 1) Opportunity cost. By choosing a quick win, we may ignore options that could create more value. 2) Amplification of dysfunction. If the current process is broken, adding AI can accelerate the destruction of value. A better strategy is to look across the supply chain to identify the places where AI can truly complete tasks better, faster, and cheaper than humans. And, perhaps, where AI allows you to re-engineer your processes altogether. In order to do that, you need to start by understanding the wide range of (often disconnected) information systems that are already in use by companies who work in manufacturing, retail, and distribution. That's what this course was designed to do: Supply Chain Beyond the Basics: Leveraging Supply Chain Information Systems. Check it out on LinkedIn Learning!
