Chapel of SS. Madonna delle Grazie In the beautiful Piedmont countryside, and more precisely in the Langhe area of Cuneo in the territory of the municipality of La Morra, there is an incredible colorful church unique in its kind in Italy. Built in 1914 as a shelter for workers in the surrounding vineyards in the event of thunderstorms or hailstorms, the Chapel of SS. Madonna delle Grazie, better known today as the Cappella del Barolo, was purchased by the Ceretto family in 1970 together with the 6 hectares of the prestigious Brunate vineyard. The church, never consecrated, is still found today in this La Morra vineyard and is always owned by the Ceretto family. Dilapidated, abandoned for years and reduced to ruin, the church was renovated by the Ceretto family in the late 1990s and has now become one of the most well-known and admired buildings in the area. The renovation was entrusted to the artists Sol LeWitt and David Tremlett who were able to transform a ruined building into a splendid testimony of contemporary art. For the renovations, LeWitt took care of the exterior with a playful and lively play of colors, while Tremlett took care of the warm and serene interior decorations. #redmagazine #barolo #chapel #canon #photo PH © Daniela Comi By Foto ReD Photographic Agency
