Today, I’m honored to share one of the most extraordinary—and nearly forgotten—stories of courage from World War II: The Angels of Bataan. These 77 American military nurses endured everything war could unleash: jungle hospitals under constant bombardment, starvation, disease, the fall of Bataan and Corregidor, and three brutal years as prisoners of war. They had no weapons—only their skill, compassion, and unbreakable resolve. They performed surgeries by lantern light. Reused bandages until they crumbled. Treated thousands while battling malaria and hunger themselves. And somehow, against every odd, all 77 survived. For decades, their story was buried in footnotes. But their courage deserves the full light of history. These women weren’t just “angels.” They were warriors of compassion. Guardians of hope in the darkest days of the Pacific War. Heroes who carried light where there should have been none. Their legacy reminds us that bravery doesn’t always carry a rifle—sometimes it carries a surgical kit and refuses to give up. If you’ve never heard their story, now is the time. Let’s finally give them the remembrance they earned. 🇺🇸✨ BLK OPS™️ Foundation David "Bull" Gurfein Shirley Baéz, APRM, RBLPT Robert L.
