Fresh water is one of the most critical resources aboard any vessel. On World Oceans Day, discover how Danfoss technologies help provide fresh water aboard the world's largest cruise ship, Icon of the Seas. WatMan Engineering chose Danfoss high-pressure pumps and energy recovery devices for the ship’s water-making system, ensuring fresh water for thousands of guests every day – with energy efficiency as a key requirement from the beginning. Among other innovations, Icon of the Seas is powered by liquid natural gas, LNG, to reduce greenhouse gas and particulate emissions. The ship also uses fuel cells to produce electricity, including the power required for desalination, which provides most of the vessel’s fresh water.
