This week, Benjamin L. Ebert, MD, PhD, attended Becker's Healthcare's 16th Annual Meeting and its Oncology Executive Summit in Chicago where he participated in a panel discussion titled, “Top Physician Leaders on What's New, Next and Best in Healthcare,” and delivered a keynote presentation to executive leaders. The panel conversation explored a wide range of topics, including breakthrough clinical innovations, emerging care models, AI integration, workforce evolution, and strategies to improve quality, access, and outcomes. In his keynote presentation, Ebert highlighted the transformative potential of early detection to significantly reduce cancer mortality. He discussed the development of new multi-cancer early detection (MCED) tests designed to identify cancer signals earlier than ever—particularly for individuals at higher risk, including those with inherited predispositions, prior cancer diagnoses, or certain environmental exposures. Emerging research suggests that early interception could play a critical role not just in detecting cancer, but in preventing it. Ongoing clinical trials are exploring how to identify and intervene in pre-malignant states before cancer develops. Advancing this work will require continued collaboration across research and clinical care—driving progress toward the future of cancer care.
