Lasting pathways out of poverty depend on what happens after a program ends. Tomorrow, DAI’s Stephen Anecho will join Caritas Switzerland for the launch of a new white paper exploring how Graduation Approaches and Market Systems Development (MSD) can be brought together to create more resilient, sustainable livelihoods. Drawing on experience from the SMILES Uganda program, the discussion will examine how combining household-level support with stronger market systems can help communities continue to access opportunities and build resilience long after external support has ended. Together, these approaches demonstrate how systems change can build on household-level progress. Graduation provides the foundation for resilience, while Market Systems Development accelerates impact by expanding access to the markets, relationships, and opportunities that help sustain progress over the long term.
