How will artificial intelligence transform logistics and what does it take for it to deliver real added value?    The question of how DACHSER is addressing AI in its logistics processes and what the prerequisites are for this was the focus of the panel discussion “Future of AI in Logistics” at TECH 2026 in Heilbronn. Stefan Hohm, Chief Development Officer (CDO) at DACHSER, and Dr. Tim Wirtz from Fraunhofer IAIS discussed concrete practical approaches with renowned tech journalist Thomas M. Kuhn.   One thing became clear: Artificial Intelligence is evolving from a mere efficiency tool into a strategic lever for resilient and proactive supply chains.   At DACHSER, we pursue a clearly structured approach that puts people at the center. Stefan Hohm puts it this way: “We don’t use AI just for the sake of technology. Our focus is on creating clear added value for our employees, relieving them of time-consuming and repetitive tasks, giving them more time for quality and customer service, and enabling them to make better-informed decisions.”   We have defined four areas of focus for AI implementation at DACHSER: · General-purpose AI: Integration of AI-powered tools into everyday work · Citizen Development: Employees develop their own applications and AI-based solutions locally using small LLMs, such as custom AI agents that assist them with their daily tasks. · Digital products: Scalable and secure development of AI applications within the corporate IT environment, including the creation of well-founded business cases and portfolios. · Big Bets: Investment in strategic use cases with high potential impact in terms of efficiency, quality, and reduction of administrative tasks, as well as first-class service for our customers.    What are the key factors for successful AI deployment at DACHSER?   High data availability and quality, as well as real-time information from our integrated core IT systems. This is complemented by our research collaborations with Fraunhofer IAIS and IML at the DACHSER Enterprise Lab. But here, too, people determine success or failure.
