It's June and two men who I have deeply revered, loved, and who touch me all the way to the cellular level are on my mind. Going back to junior high school I fell deeply, maybe in love with a Canadian prog rock trio called Rush and particularly their drummer and lyricist, Neil Peart. Not secretly, I hoped he'd marry me at some point. (Sorry not sorry) To this day if I'm awake in the wee hours Red Barchetta or Freewill are probably going through my head. Geddy and Alex are back on tour after more than a decade with an incredible young woman percussionist who is doing a stunning job playing Neil's very, very complicated songs. I absolutely can not wait to see them in Detroit with my real life love, Randy Kruger. ♥️ Concurrently and related to Juneteenth, I've been thinking about my other long time super crush: the unstoppable, brilliant author, lawyer, civil rights activist and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative, Bryan Stevenson. Let's face it, I think about the work he does and continues to do, frequently. We visited many of the museums and historical sites that he and his team built in Montgomery, AL this spring. I encourage each of you to do the same and read Just Mercy, if you have not already. I guess I have a thing for super smart good guys. Rest in Peace Neil and I know you'll never rest, Mr. Stevenson. I love you both to my core. 💜⚖️🎶💜⚖️🎶
