A Higher Degree by Research at Curtin offers more than just academic excellence — it's a pathway to personal growth, global experience, and impactful research. Jordan, a PhD candidate researching Disability in the Arts, completed an overseas internship with the Glasgow Women's Library, an Accredited Museum in the UK dedicated to women's lives, histories, and achievements. Their work involves co-designing with disabled artists to foster community and disability pride. Through the HDR internship program, Jordan curated exhibitions, facilitated craftivist workshops, and digitised cultural archives — all while building an international network and continuing their research. Importantly, the program allowed for deep, immersive learning rather than focusing solely on deliverables. As Jordan shared: "This internship has opened my eyes to the possibilities of future work in my field… I've done things I didn't know I was interested in until I did them." Curtin supports PhD students through Research Training Program (RTP) scholarships, which provide a living stipend and tuition fee offset, ensuring students can focus on their research while living comfortably.
