Two scientists submit their research on the same day. Same field. Similar impact. Comparable institutions. One paper moves through peer review faster. The other waits. Not because of weaker science. Not because of lower quality. But because the first author is a woman. A recent large-scale study published in PLOS Biology analyzed 36.5 million biomedical and life science papers and found that articles led by female researchers spend 7–14% longer under peer review compared to those led by male researchers. When review timelines stretch, careers stretch with them. The data suggests the system itself may be introducing friction. And friction accumulates. Equity in STEM is not only about: More scholarships More representation panels More hashtags It is about structural transparency in peer review, funding decisions, and editorial practices. Science needs talent. Talent has no gender. What reforms do you think journals and institutions should implement to reduce bias in peer review? #WomenInSTEM #Academics #Womensday #STEMEquity Read: https://lnkd.in/eZRr2zBe
