🔬 𝐋𝐚𝐛 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐦𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐜𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡. The "Challenges and Future of Automation" workshop of the Center for the Transformation of Chemistry (CTC) in Leipzig brought together researchers, vendors, and industry partners to explore one of the topics currently shaping the sector: 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐝𝐚𝐲, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠. What stood out was the openness in the room. Different backgrounds, different perspectives, but a shared goal: building a common understanding of what automation can realistically achieve, and where the limits still are. The consensus was clear. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥. 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞. Reproducibility across labs, instruments, and teams depends on it. The industry is moving in this direction, and those who build on open, connected systems today will be better positioned for the next generation of automated and autonomous research environments. Workshops like this help turn individual advances into shared progress by creating space for honest discussions, practical insights, and cross-sector collaboration. Grateful to everyone who joined us for making this such a productive and honest conversation. Thanks to all the teams already building the tools that will define the next phase of chemical research. We look forward to continuing the conversation and to seeing how these ideas translate into the laboratories of the future. #rethinkingchemistry #autonomouslab #automation
