Happy National Roofing Week! To celebrate, we asked Susan Deaton how she got into the roofing industry and why she stayed: "I entered the roofing industry on September 10, 2001 - the day before a moment our country would never forget. At the time, I had just completed my service as an analyst in the U.S. Air Force and was convinced I was headed toward a really cool government job that would utilize all my training and credentials. Instead, I took a receptionist position with a Carlisle representative group that also distributed Carlisle products.   If you had told me then that I'd still be in the roofing industry nearly 25 years later, I would not have believed you. But one opportunity led to another, from receptionist, to customer service and purchasing, to inside sales, and today, to my role with CSL as the Inside Sales and Marketing Manager.   The funny thing is, for me, it hasn't really been about roofing. It's been about the people. It's been celebrating milestones, babies, retirements, and new opportunities. It's been walking through deep loss, illness, disappointments, and difficult seasons. It's been the conversations, the laughter, the friendships, and the relationships built along the way.   My path into this industry may have been unintentional, but the relationships have been anything but. I'm grateful that, in so many ways, this industry has allowed me to live out my calling to serve and love others.   Cheers to all the amazing people who make this industry so special."   #NationalRoofingWeek2026 National Roofing Contractors Association
