Australia’s internationally recognised wetlands are under pressure from climate change, and the impacts are already evident. Our researchers have collaborated with governments, wetland managers, and communities to understand these impacts on three Ramsar wetlands, and plan for their future. Across sites in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, we brought together science and local knowledge to assess the vulnerability of wetland ecosystems, and build a vision of what they might look like under future climate scenarios. The outlook is clear: hotter conditions, less reliable rainfall, and more extreme weather events, which will put iconic and threatened species at risk. We co-developed pathways for adaptation, to support evidence-based decision making and safeguard wetlands and the benefits they offer communities and the environment. Our approach is designed to be applied across other wetlands in Australia and internationally. Read the full story: https://lnkd.in/en_h2zpD
