On Tuesday 30 June, our Director of Public Prosecutions, Stephen Parkinson, appeared before the Justice Committee in Parliament to discuss the work of the Crown Prosecution Service and the wider criminal justice system. The session covered a wide range of issues, and there was much to be proud of. There has been a 46% increase in the volume of adult rape-flagged charges since we rolled out the National Operating Model in July 2023, a significant milestone in our work to pursue justice for victims of serious sexual offences. The DPP explained the importance of ensuring every element of the National Operating Model is fully and consistently embedded, and outlined the steps being taken to improve our service to victims. This included the role of victim liaison officers and pre-trial meetings for victims in rape and serious sexual offences cases. The discussion also covered disproportionality, hate crime prosecutions, bail reform and public order prosecutions. Alongside these topics, the DPP highlighted the efficiency improvements being delivered across the organisation helping us meet increasing demand while continuing to improve timeliness.
