#TranslatorSpotlightFriday Joseph Arcadia Good-day 😳 WHAT would you say this stands for? Yes! ➡️ José Arcadio Buendía ⬅️, one of the main characters from “A Hundred Years of Solitude” (Cien años de soledad), originally written in #Spanish by Gabriel García Marquez. Funny. Isn’t it? 😂 Why did the English #translator Rabassa choose to keep names in Spanish and not translating them into English? - "Joseph Arcadia Good-day" doesn’t make much sense! - In his own words “By not translating names we can at least maintain a certain aura of the original tongue and its culture” (Rabassa 14). Reading this reminds us about the importance of looking for #professional translators when having to delegate our projects because we want to broaden our horizons and reach foreign markets. Do you agree with us? 📚Congratulations to Rabassa in this case! Flawless thoughts!📚
