Interesting few weeks in June! As those who know me can attest, I do like the intersection of the history of the City and the London Insurance Market! A great evening on the terrace at the National Liberal Club celebrating Nick Smithโs Presidency. The Club is a brilliant example of what makes the City unique. Open to all, bringing together people from different professions and backgrounds to build relationships, support civic life and stay connected to the Ward. ย Nickโs emphasis on connection really came through - a simple but important reminder that, even in a fast-moving City, relationships remain at the heart of everything we do. Members and guests of the Worshipful Company of Insurers enjoyed a fascinating walking tour of the City, organised by Matthew Waters and led by Jack Chesher from Living London History. From hidden symbols and street names to tornadoes๐ช๏ธ coffee houses โ๏ธ and the origins of our market, a brilliant reminder of how much sits beneath the surface of the Square Mile. A great example of the value the WCI creates. Not just through events, but through relationships, shared curiosity and a genuine interest in our profession and its history. Huge thanks to Matt for pulling it together and to Jack for bringing it to life๐๐ผ ย ๐จ๐๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ 2026 ๐จ๐จ๐ญBasel did not disappoint, even in 35+ degree heat! From immersive installations to pieces challenging perception, value and meaning, with works ranging from emerging artists through to museum quality masterpieces well into the tens of millions ๐ตโจโจThe most powerful pieces spark conversation and debate and encouraging space for thinking ๐ค ย Thanks to my personal curator and guide Andrew Davies and my culture hound companion Mark Fosh๐ ย ๐บ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐ช๐๐๐โช Around 140 people gathered at St Katharine Cree, at the heart of the City and its maritime history, to remember the HMT Lancastria โ๏ธ one of Britainโs greatest wartime tragedies. From families of those who lost their lives to representatives from across the Lloydโs market & Lloyd's Military Network, supported by the Lloyd's Choir, it was a powerful and moving remembrance. A reminder of the deep connection between our profession, service and shared history, and the important role St Katharine Cree plays as a workerโs church in the heart of the City and the London Insurance Market. ย We are also looking for #volunteers to support a range of projects at the church, from Silent Cinema ๐ฆ to Gardening ๐ฉโ๐พ and the Christmas Market ๐Please do get in touch if you would like to be involved.
