Here’s a quick hack to increase your book sales via your newsletter. The “Bye-Now Effect” Bye = Buy In a study published in the Journal of Consumer Research, researchers found that seeing the word “bye” primed participants to think about buying, even when the context had nothing to do with shopping. Participants exposed to “bye” were significantly more likely to make a purchase and were even willing to pay, on average, up to 30% more for an item compared to a control group. One experiment had participants read a blog that was signed off with Bye-Bye. The participants were then asked a question (not related to the blog) about how much they were willing to pay for a nice restaurant meal. Those primed with “bye-bye” offered significantly higher amounts —around $45.50 versus about $32 in the control condition.
