What an extraordinary session for our Documentary Filmmaking students today. We were honoured to welcome a team of producers from Channel News Asia to Ngee Ann Polytechnic's School of Film & Media Studies, where they shared their craft, their instincts, and seasoned insights with students currently enrolled in the FSV Documentary Filmmaking module. The CNA team brought their work to life — walking students through standout series including Inside Maximum Security, Homeless in Singapore, and Besties — and opened up about the production decisions that shaped them: workflow, ethical considerations, and the creative choices that define documentary storytelling at a professional level. They also offered candid, practical advice to students preparing to produce their own short documentaries. The visit carried special meaning for our programme. Two of the CNA producers — Shamala Rajendran and Dynn Othman — are NP Mass Communication alumni, and seeing them return to campus as accomplished industry professionals was a powerful reminder of what our graduates go on to achieve. A heartfelt thank you to the entire CNA team for giving so generously of their time: Imelda Saad Ziqing Liu Dynn Othman Shamala Rajendran Trina C. Moments like these — where industry meets the classroom — are exactly what shape the next generation of documentary filmmakers. We hope this is the first of many collaborations to come. #npfms #ngeeannpoly #CNA #CNAInsider
