Bring on the heavy rain! ☔ In Aarhus, locals and visitors will soon be able to enjoy the new and improved Vesterbro Torv in the city centre. The square and nearby buildings and streets were at risk of being flooded, but with the new solutions, the area will be ready to combat everything from a small drizzle to heavy rain. Not only is the area a part of the municipality’s climate adaptation plan, the square will also serve as a recreational space for locals and visitors, and increase mobility for public transportation, pedestrians and bicycles, as the previous heavy traffic has been redirected, improving both safety and accessibility. Furthermore, adding trees and plants to the square will create a greener area for the benefit of the city. Watch the video with specialist Amanda Megan Smith, to find out how climate adaptation and urban development go hand in hand in the new square 👇 The project is being carried out for the City of Aarhus and Aarhus Vand together with LYTT Architecture and Krüger A/S/Ramboll.
