World Press Freedom Day reminds us that protecting journalists and safeguarding media freedom are essential pillars of democratic societies.   This year’s commemoration follows the Journalists Matter Campaign conference in Chișinău, held under the Moldovan Presidency of the Committee of Ministers. Policymakers, journalists, experts and civil society reaffirmed a shared commitment to journalists’ safety, quality journalism and democratic resilience across Europe.   As pressures on journalists intensify online harassment, disinformation, digital threats we must move from reactive measures to systemic and preventive approaches.   Journalism matters.
