The Council of Europe is calling for greater transparency and stronger oversight of how online platforms uphold their human rights responsibilities towards users. 💻 A newly adopted Committee of Ministers recommendation focuses on enhancing online safety and empowering both users and content creators. In today’s digital ecosystem, a handful of powerful platforms control what we see and interact with, often through opaque and unaccountable systems. When profit-driven design takes priority, users’ rights and the integrity of information can be compromised. Platforms’ design choices and lack of transparency leave individuals vulnerable, lacking the tools and insight needed to make informed choices about their online experiences. 📯 It is time for real change: we need digital spaces that are safer, fairer, and more transparent for everyone. How can we collectively ensure that technology supports – not undermines – our rights and democracy? 👉 Read the recommendation here https://go.coe.int/J5r8f
