🍀 Back from Dublin, inspired by Semiconductors Ireland 2026 – a new one-day format allowing for great exchange with Europe´s prominent “Silicon Island” cluster (~20,000 employees in ~130 enterprises), giving insights into Ireland's new national semiconductor strategy and got me to meet former AMD colleagues after 17 years 👏. All of Ireland's big players came together… ▶️ Intel (US): Ireland is home of Intel's European development and cutting-edge manufacturing with 5,000 employees, three 300mm fab modules, 3nm capabilities, a large R&D center, investments of 17 billion Euros since 2019. Ireland is the strategic cornerstone of Intel Foundry. ▶️ Analog Devices (US): Its European hub and headquarter is in Ireland – with two fabs, a major innovation center and design teams. ADI is Irelands semiconductor veteran, present there for 50 years. ▶️ AMD (US): enlarged its Ireland presence significantly due to the Xilinx acquisition in 2022 and has two development and engineering sites there, further growth will make Ireland the secret AMD EMEA headquarter with hundreds of employees. ▶️ Exyte (GER): Expert in high-tech facility design / engineering / construction and GC of many global fab projects, runs two sites in Ireland with abilities of shifting capacities from one cluster to the other - one reason why a number of Irish suppliers currently built-up a presence in Saxony. ▶️ Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland – public bodies and our peers on “Silicon Island” aiming new growth by supporting international expansion of local businesses plus attracting new foreign direct investments. It is interesting to see their land development activities and job creation goals (+35,000 until 2040). ▶️ I-C3, the Irish Chips Competence Center, the think tank Primesel Group, SEMI Europe and numerous semiconductor suppliers History, language, easy travel, joint successes created strong industry relations between North America and Ireland. There is certainly room also for new 🍀 Irish-German / Ireland-Saxony 🏭 cooperation. I am looking forward to our exchange in a couple of weeks during the Silicon Saxony Days in Dresden.
