Government's approval of investment in critical enabling infrastructure for the regeneration of the Cork Docklands is an important milestone towards delivery of the overall project, the largest regeneration scheme in the country. The Docklands regeneration has an important role to play in enabling population growth and economic development, both regionally and nationally. The investment in infrastructure approved by government this week will lay the groundwork for the development of housing for up to 25,000 people and will support up to 25,000 jobs. Conor Healy, Cork Chamber CEO, said, "With Cork’s population projected to grow considerably in the coming decades, the Docklands project is an essential economic enabler, delivering housing and facilitating job creation, while enhancing the city’s vibrancy, sustainability and overall regional competitiveness. "Considerable progress has been made to date on the transformation of brownfield sites and public amenities in the Cork Docklands, and we look forward to the ongoing delivery of additional infrastructure, housing and amenities to unlock the associated economic benefits."
