A welcome announcement of government funding through the Shared Island initiative today to support the development of Ireland’s ports to facilitate offshore renewable energy.   €40 million has been allocated to help progress infrastructure projects at ports across the island. The funding will be directed towards supply chain resilience and related activities, supporting the delivery of offshore wind energy projects critical to our climate and economic objectives in the coming decades.   Cork has an immense opportunity to become a hub for renewable energy on a national scale in the coming years; all-island collaboration will be key to achieving national and international climate targets, as well as enhancing both trade and energy security across the island.   Cork Chamber collaborates with colleagues in Dublin Chamber and NI Chamber through the Tri-Region Partnership to advance shared aims in relation to all-island connectivity and economic growth. The Tri-Region Partnership has advocated for investment to future-proof our ports in order to support renewable energy developments and broader economic growth, and today’s announcement is a significant step forward in this regard.   Strengthening all-island connectivity through higher speed rail links, as well as the restoration of a Cork to Belfast airlink, remains a key priority for the Tri-Region Partnership. While funding has also been announced today to improve Derry-Belfast-Dublin connectivity, it is vital that higher speed rail connectivity between Cork-Dublin-Belfast is also prioritised in line with the aims of the All-Island Strategic Rail Review. https://lnkd.in/d63jiWTz
