"The first thing Simon has to do is to rebuild trust." Brendan Ryan first became involved with Cork Simon in the early 70s and over five decades later, he remains a committed voluntary board member. Trust sits at the heart of everything we do. For those experiencing homelessness, it's something that has been broken time and again. Brendan knows this better than most. Our soup run began 55 years ago: Cork Simon's very first service. It's still there every single night of the year, a vital lifeline for the men and women surviving on the street or living on the edge of homelessness. But it's more than food. For so many people who may have no one else to speak with, it's a point of human connection. As Brendan puts it: "The soup run was the way our world of settled living interacted with a world, which was totally different, but which actually was made up of people who wanted the same things as those of us who lived in the settled world." 55 years of the soup run.
