A powerful example of licensing done the right way. Tiwi Islands Adventures commissioned fishing shirts for their lodge in Milikapiti, working with artist Jimmy Mungatopi to licence his artwork, ensuring it is used with permission, respect and proper payment. Jimmy’s design features alamunga (barramundi) with Jilamara (body paint design), proudly shared with visitors to Country and community. As Jimmy shared: “I asked Copyright Agency to do it the right way through a licensing agreement, which means I get paid proper way for this design… I’m proud for everyone to be wearing my design, family and visitors.” This is what ethical licensing in community looks like: artist-led, culturally grounded, and done with integrity.
