Tapping a rubber tree is a craft that takes real skill. The cut must be just deep enough to release the latex – but not so deep that it damages the tree. Done right, a single tree can be harvested for 20 to 30 years. In Borneo, smallholders are learning improved tapping techniques through our partnership with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH – using precise cuts and bamboo pipes to collect cleaner latex that dries faster and more evenly.
