Not every meaningful conversation has to start with something high-stakes. In higher ed, one of the biggest challenges is helping students feel comfortable enough to actually engage with each other. That first step—breaking the ice—can make or break everything that follows. A simple approach: have students rotate partners every minute, responding to a new question each time. It’s fast, low-pressure, and surprisingly effective at building connection. Once that foundation is there, deeper conversations come more naturally.
