Today's #MuseumFromHome is a vignette is from a page in a mohelbook, or book for the ritual circumciser. #EmanuelAtHome The scene depicts the blessing over the child. The manuscript contains the order of the service for the ceremony of circumcision, including laws and instructions for the mohel. It also contains blessings for Grace After the Meal, Laws and Blessings for the Redemption of the First Born ceremony and prayers for travels. The book features eight illustrations plus an illustrated title page. The title page tells us that it was made by the scribe and illustrator Judah Leib ben Samson Segal who came from Dusseldorf and it was made in 1744-45. This manuscript is a prime example of the 18th century revival of Hebrew manuscript illustration in central Europe.
