The conversation has continued this afternoon at CST’s Early Years Summit 2026, with a clear focus on translating insight into practice. Molly Devlin and Madeleine Roberts from Ark, shared findings from their action research into handwriting and early English, offering strategies to support inclusive teaching and develop confident, fluent writers. During lunch, delegates met Professor Sam Wass for a book signing, continuing the conversation beyond his keynote. In the afternoon keynote, Susie Owen (Director of Early Years, Childcare, Families and Analysis, Department for Education) set out the national picture through The Best Start in Life strategy, providing important context for leaders shaping provision. Later sessions focused on key sector challenges. Swabra Lloyd (Inspire Partnership), Ruth Coleman (Headteacher, Highfield Nursery School) and Sherise Daly (Unity Schools Partnership), explored how trusts are building positive attendance habits from the start, sharing practical approaches to engaging families. The final panel brought together Ed Vainker OBE (Managing Director, The Reach Foundation), Sarah Ryan (Early Education Lead, Maritime Academy Trust), and Rebecca Oberg (Director, ISEY - Institute for the Science of Early Years and Youth, and Head of Partnerships, Bradford Birth to 19) to examine how place-based partnerships can strengthen support for children and families, with a focus on what is practical and achievable in local contexts. Thank you to our speakers and delegates for a day of thoughtful discussion and shared learning. With thanks to our community supporters, Community Playthings UK, Best Practice Network, and Kindred Squared. Wishing all our delegates a safe journey home.
