More than 1.4 million people in 47 countries/territories analysed for the 2026 Global Report on Food Crises (GRFC) are facing famine-like conditions. This is a nine-fold increase since 2016. Conflict and insecurity continue to be the primary drivers of acute food insecurity in countries/territories, hosting more than half those facing high levels of acute food insecurity. Yet one of the report’s most damning findings is that last year, against this backdrop of persistently high acute food insecurity, humanitarian and development funding to food sectors in crisis declined to levels of a decade ago. The devastating full impact of international funding cuts announced last year is now emerging in countries where Concern works. In Yemen – the third most food insecure country in the world – half the population is facing hunger and almost two-thirds of households are now unable to meet their minimum food needs. When funding drops this sharply, the impact is immediate. Services cease, outreach shrinks, and people fall through the cracks. Unless cuts to international funding are addressed as a matter of priority, acute food insecurity will continue to increase rapidly this year. Ireland has already demonstrated important leadership by maintaining its official development aid commitments. Ireland must galvanise political will at a global level to ensure food security and nutrition are prioritised at this critical moment. Read the full report here: https://bit.ly/4cJ7RfA #GRFC26
