Earlier this week, our President, Matt Ketschke, joined NYSERDA President, Doreen Harris, for a conversation at the NYC Solar and Storage Summit. The discussion centered on how solar and energy storage have a role to play in keeping New York City’s grid reliable as energy demand grows, while also balancing affordability concerns. For Con Edison, that means looking at every investment through the lens of customer value: does it maintain reliability, help manage costs over the long term, and support the state’s clean energy goals? All of these goals need to work together. Matt emphasized that meeting our region’s energy demand as we electrify buildings and transportation does not have a single solution. It will require an all-of-the-above approach—continued investment in transmission and distribution infrastructure to ensure our energy system can safely and reliably deliver power where it is needed. It also means battery storage at the right place and scale, along with renewables, demand flexibility, and other clean resources, all contributing to a reliable energy system. Collaboration across government, utilities, and the private sector will be critical to align on the right policy design to support integrating these clean, flexible resources at scale and delivering the most value for our customers. As New York charts its path forward, continued partnership and thoughtful planning will be essential to delivering a reliable, resilient, and affordable clean energy future.
