Europe doesn’t need another delay - it needs a solution. To help unlock a way forward on the #EUDR, we have presented a pragmatic and politically viable proposal, developed together with producer countries and European partners. Our goal is clear: make the Regulation work, protecting the EU’s non-negotiable principles (zero-deforestation, full traceability, and robust due diligence) while safeguarding competitiveness, innovation, and open markets. Today, supply chains are at different stages of readiness. Some operators have already invested heavily and are fully compliant. The palm oil supply chain is a benchmark in this respect. Others, especially SMEs and millions of smallholders, still face significant technical and financial challenges. A credible solution must address both. This is why our proposal offers a balanced path forward: • a structured 24-month testing phase (with no sanctions) to identify and fix technical barriers; • an additional 12 month testing phase to the current proposal of one-years postponement for small and micro-operators. • a Community of Practice for real-time problem-solving across the entire value chain; • substantial public–private funding to ensure smallholder inclusion and accelerate digital transformation. This approach preserves the EUDR’s core ambition while giving all actors the time, tools, and capacity to comply, turning the Regulation into a competitive advantage, not a barrier. Europe needs a solution that is pragmatic, evidence-based, pro-innovation, and pro-market. One that restores confidence, strengthens free trade, and makes sustainability a driver of growth. That is the compromise we are putting forward, and we stand ready to work with EU institutions, Member States, businesses, and producer countries to make it a reality.
