Ensuring the continued security and resilience of Ireland’s gas system is a key priority for the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU). Today, we have published a proposed Direction on Interruptible Gas Connections. Through continued engagement with Gas Networks Ireland, potential near‑term challenges for the gas system have been identified. In response, the CRU considers it essential to take timely action to protect security of supply, ahead of further network reinforcement. The consultation seeks views on introducing a mandatory interruptible product for new large industrial customers, while also inviting feedback on other options. Importantly, there are no proposed changes to customer connection rights or to Gas Networks Ireland’s network expansion plans.
