Our story began in the early 1950s. Elise Sørensen was a nurse, whose sister Thora has just had an ostomy operation. Moved by her sister’s fears about going out in public in case her stoma leaks, Elise came up with the idea of the adhesive ostomy bag. Inspired by Elise’s concept, civil engineer and plastics producer Aage Louis-Hansen and his wife Johanne, a nurse, created the world’s first adhesive ostomy bag. Today, Coloplast is a global company helping millions of people live more independent lives. Whether they are adjusting to life after ostomy surgery, learning to breathe or talk with a neck stoma, managing urological or bowel conditions, or healing wounds, our solutions are designed to empower individuals to live the life they choose.
