After 14 years, the Northlander is back on the tracks and college-trained professionals are the driving force behind making this homecoming a reality.   As this key passenger rail service enters its critical testing phase, the focus isn't just on the engines, but on the technical mastery required to keep them moving; restoring a 740-kilometre corridor requires a specialized talent pipeline that only Ontario’s colleges can provide.   Whether it's Canadore College training specialized railway car technicians and motive power experts essential for modern fleet operations or Northern College of Applied Arts and Technology graduating the heavy duty equipment technicians and welding engineering technologists needed to maintain rugged northern infrastructure, the rigorous testing currently underway serves as a reminder that major transit projects cannot function without precise, hands-on expertise.
