All of our In Pursuit essays contain valuable lessons. This week's lesson is amongst the most relevant of our time. We should all strive to be "poor haters" like Garfield. As Charlie Goodyear writes, Garfield was not a perfect person. But he was an admirable leader who tried to see the best in others, even his political adversaries. I was so moved by Garfield's story after reading Candice Millard's book, I wrote Garfield into one of my mystery novels ("Gore in the Garden") - simply because I thought more people needed to know about him. Please don't miss this installment of our series. It's the message we need as we head into this historic 4th of July weekend.
