GERARD PETER KUIPER (December 7, 1905 – December 23, 1973) Gerard Kuiper was a Dutch-born astronomer considered the father of modern planetary science. He is well known for the Kuiper belt named after him. Kuiper was chief scientist for the Ranger lunar program in the 1960s. NASA named a telescope after him, called “Kuiper Airborne Observatory.” The Kuiper Prize is the most established distinguished award given by the American Astronomical Society to achievers in the field of planetary sciences. Today we wish a happy birthday to this fantastic legend. . #Kuiper #observatory #planetary #science #telescopes #lunar #astronomy #astronomylover #nasa
