For years, one of the biggest objections to moving multiplayer games to being cloud-hosted has been bandwidth costs. Gameservers have traditionally been very networking heavy and cloud networking expensive, which makes costs a big part of the discussion. Amazon's announcement yesterday (link here: https://lnkd.in/ePp7c3jk) that GameLift servers now include network bandwidth at no additional charge changes things a bit. For studios considering cloud migration, this removes a HUGE cost uncertainty for your game, and makes the business case for managed game server hosting a clear win. So if you're a studio who's seen the news, and is now considering what making the move would involve, you probably have a few questions: 1.) Do these cost savings ACTUALLY apply to me? 2.) How easily can we migrate? 3.) Can we preserve (or improve) our existing player experience? 4.) Can we integrate with our existing backend, matchmaking, and build pipelines? 5.) Do we get the operational visibility we need once everything is live? If any of those hit the mark, speak to Multiplayer Wizards. We work closely with the team at AWS, and help studios assess, plan, and deliver low-risk migrations to Amazon Gamelift servers, from technical validation all the way through to live ops and ongoing support. This news changes a lot for studios like yours; speak to us and find out what the savings (and improvements) could be over your existing solution! Massive congratulations to our friends at AWS for Games, this is huge news and a big change in the server hosting space!
